Detox Toolbox: The Spa

salt room-DermascopeDetoxification, or internal cleansing, is an important component of good overall health and beautiful skin. Many people think detox is just about taking certain supplements, or fasting, or following certain diets for a period of time, but in truth, there are many methods available to help the body rid itself of built up toxins. Some of these methods are effective on their own, but all of them work best in conjunction with a proper whole foods-based diet.

While some aspects of detoxification aren’t all sunshines and rainbows; fortunately, other aspects involving baths, saunas, and massage, for example; can be quite pleasant and relaxing. Detox is a huge trend these days, and not just in gyms and health food stores. The overall trend of wellness has positively influenced most industries, and many spas have chosen to add different holistic modalities and services to their menus; and many spas now offer one or more ways to help you detox.

Depending on the spa, sometimes you can spend just as much time looking at the menu and trying to figure out what each service entails and which is best for you as you do actually enjoying the service! In an effort to help you understand what spa services are detoxifying and what to expect, I decided to share my latest featured article in Dermascope,Detoxification: A Spa’s Best Friend,” with you.

Dermascope is a leading journal in the aesthetics and spa industries that I’m honored to regularly contribute to. It goes out to aestheticians, cosmetologists, and spa owners and managers, and provides the latest in industry news, advancements, as well as continuing education.

Dermascope Rachael Pontillo DetoxThe purpose of this article was to educate aestheticians and spa owners and managers about how they can better serve clients who are looking for detoxifying treatments by adding new menu items and also by partnering with other local holistic professionals. I wanted to share it with you not only to help you better understand the different service offerings, but also wanted to show you how the aesthetics industry is working hard behind the scenes to meet your changing needs as a consumer, and also give you the most options and best experience possible.

I view my role kind of like a bridge between the aesthetics professional and the consumer, and am happy to share with you this exclusive industry knowledge.

Please enjoy and share my article “Detoxification” in the December 2013 issue of Dermascope.
