Excerpt from The Sauce Code: The Ticking Time Clock

Animated_clockThe Sauce Code is coming so soon, I’m literally on the edge of my seat! In fact, by the time you read this, it might already be available. Fingers crossed. In order to send positive vibes out into the Universe to?keep the wheels in motion for a speedy publication, Chef Joe and I decided to release another excerpt from the book. This section is called “The Ticking Time Clock,” and comes from Component One of The Sauce Code where we discuss locked doors and how to break through them. Enjoy!

The Sauce Code: The Ticking Time Clock

You aren’t a busy person, are you? You don’t happen to have a job, a long commute, classes to attend, kids with much busier schedules than you ever had as a child, a social life, yoga class to attend (if you’re Rachael), a CrossFit class to attend (if you’re Joe), Sunday school to teach, or family functions just about every weekend, do you? Is that just us?

We’ve never met anyone who believes they have time on their hands, whether they’re young, old, single, or married with children. Time management is another version of a locked door that seems to pop up out of nowhere right in the middle of the day.

Picture this:?

You’re engrossed in a riveting project at work, happen to look at the clock, and oh my goodness you’ve worked straight through lunch and you’re about to miss an important meeting with a new client.?

bigstockphoto_Frustration_2266059You’re waiting for your kids to get changed after dance class so you can go home to make dinner. While they get changed, one of the other mothers comes up to you to ask you to volunteer for an upcoming fundraising event. You begin to explain your most logical reason for why you can’t possibly spare the time. The next thing you know, 30 minutes have passed, and by the time you get home it?s nearly the kids? bedtime?and they haven’t even done their homework yet?which of course they need your help with.

The clock never stops ticking and despite our best wishes for more hours in the day, they never come. Let’s face it, even if Father Time did magically add more hours to the day, we super-busy people would just find more ways to fill them up with activities. More time in the day won’t unlock the door to better time management skills?but The Sauce Code can certainly help!

The Sauce Code might not be able to literally add hours to your day, but it can help you get the most out of the time you do have in the kitchen. The Sauce Code combinations are simple to prepare and take very little time. Most of them are raw and don’t even require cooking?really! Plus, they can be made ahead of time and may be refrigerated for several days and be just as good, if not better, than the day you first made it; because the flavors will have had time to blend.

Now picture this:

kids cookingYou’ve made two sauces ahead of the time and have stored them in the refrigerator for future use. You come home from a long, tiring day, and all you have to do is add a protein (such as meat, fish, poultry, or pre-prepared beans), which takes very little time to cook; mix one of your sauces with pre-cooked whole grains as a side dish, make a salad using one of the sauces as a dressing to go along with it, and ta-da! You have a fresh, healthy, complete, home-cooked meal in 20 minutes or less.

Isn’t that scenario much more pleasant?

To learn how The Sauce Code can help you achieve that last scenario, you’ll just have to read the book 🙂
