Working from home sounds like the dream working arrangement ⁠— you gain more control over your work hours, eliminate commuting costs, and do your tasks in a comfortable environment. But despite this, people who work from home might find it harder to deal with their personal lives as they bring their offices inside their homes.

As work becomes the top priority inside the house, telecommuting workers can easily place their wellbeing and self-care at the end of their do-to-list. One key self-care practice that telecommuters shouldn’t forget to do is their skincare. That’s why it’s important to cut back on these types of foods to achieve clear and glowing skin.

Moreover, consuming nutrient-rich foods is also crucial for skin health. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and seeds are packed with beauty-nutritious properties. Carotenoid, flavonoid, and tocopherol-rich foods can help slow down signs of skin-aging caused by epigenetic–meaning lifestyle-induced–factors. So, try to incorporate lots of plant foods into your inside-out work-from-home skincare routine.

Stick to a reliable topical skincare routine

Even if you’re not as exposed to outside pollutants compared to your in-office colleagues, establishing a good skincare routine is key to a healthy and lively appearance. Finding what works best might take some time, but it’s important to remember to take it slow with introducing new products. While it might be tempting to experiment with fancy formulations while at home, it’s better that your work-from-home skincare routine contains ingredients and products that you know your skin loves.

The road to smooth and supple skin requires time and consistency. Skincare products are not quick fix, and there’s no such thing as a “miracle ingredient.” In fact, sometimes the latest “miracle ingredient” may do more harm than good! Even products that claim to be suitable for all skin types could potentially cause irritation or an allergic reaction. To patch test any new product or ingredient, apply a tiny amount to the inside of your arm. If redness, itchiness, swelling, pain, rashes or any adverse reactions occur, then it’s safe to say that the product isn’t for you. And of course, seek medical attention should anaphylaxis or any other signs of a serious reaction occur!

Give your skin a little extra TLC often

As with any working arrangement, remote work can get stressful. A University of Minnesota study found that stress can lead to chronic illnesses like cancer and heart disease, and it is also directly linked to skin breakouts, flare-ups, and premature skin aging, so it’s important to find time to relax and de-stress. One way to do this is by adding extra-pampering rituals such as DIY facial masks, tools like gua sha, and facial steams to your work-from-home skincare routine.
