Sacred space is a term you?might have thought of?for prayer, yoga, meditation, or even spending special time with loved ones–so why would we use it in conjunction with making skincare??Skincare–or care of the skin–isn’t just an act or part of a daily routine. It’s a personal and often solitary ritual, and it’s also time in which many of us have inner dialogs with ourselves and with, or without knowing it–with the Universe.
It’s also a time we connect with our own sensations–with touch–the feeling of our skin on our own fingers and our fingers on our own skin, as well as the feel of the products on our skin; with sight–as we either admire or admonish what we see in our reflections; with scent–the aromas of the various products; and even with hearing–the running of the water, the sound of the pump, spray, or jar lid opening and closing.?It’s a very intimate time, and one that deserves as much reverence as other personal moments and dialogs–and therefore, I believe that creating skincare and practicing?skincare rituals should be done in sacred space.
Whether you’re making your own skincare products (which I can teach you to do in my online course, Create Your Skincare, or giving yourself or someone else a facial, the energy of the space you create for that ritual ultimately affects the overall experience those products will have on your skin, or your client’s skin.
In the spa, you might refer to creating sacred skincare space as “setting the ambience,” and use candles, soft music, and essential oils–this is, indeed, the act of creating sacred skincare space. It’s as important to do so for yourself at home when performing your own skincare rituals–you deserve the same positive energy when caring for your skin at home as you get at a spa.
If you’re making your own products, the energy of your space goes into your products through you, while you’re working with the ingredients–positive or negative–so creating sacred skincare space is essential for a more nourishing experience. I realize that the concept of sacred space–with or without skincare attached to it–might be an unfamiliar concept for you in the context of your own home, so I wanted to tell you more about it, and show you one of my sacred skincare spaces, for this week’s?Spiritual Skincare Sunday.

I cannot follow the link for Spiritual Skincare Sundays, it gives me a page not found. I just left a comment on Youtube about this, but I do take great care in my workspace and environment when I craft my mineral cosmetics (just for myself right now but soon for others!) but I could do a lot better with my space when I make oil blends and balms. Do you think this might be why my facial oils seem to be doing no good for my skin? Thanks so much for this, you inspire so much good for those who want to make their own skincare for themselves and others!
Hi Ashlynn, thanks for your comment! That link is fixed now for Spiritual Skincare Sundays on FB. In terms of your oil blends and balms, there could be a variety of reasons why you’re not seeing results–but creating your sacred skincare space is a great way to start! If you want to consult about your oils and balms, you might consider scheduling a Hash it Out session with me so we can go over your skin combination, as well as what ingredients and proportions you’re working with 🙂
When I make my skincare I turn on my himalayn salt lamp, and make sure there is no clutter! I also like to make sure I am in a good mood. I refuse to make skincare if I am annoyed or mad. I believe in vibes and energy and want to make sure the energy that goes into my product is positive. I also say a prayer while making my skincare praying for my clients who are going to use my products that they may receive a positive experience!
Tasha–I love that so much! I’m sure your products are so much better because you make those efforts. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
