| What do you mean it’s DISCONTINUED?! |
It?s happened to all of us at least one time. We run low on (or completely out of) our favorite makeup color or skin care product, go to the store to replace it and lo and behold it is gone. Not simply out of stock, but GONE, as in no longer being manufactured. So then we start the frantic process of calling the manufacturer and every store in humanity that has ever carried the product in an attempt to locate and purchase every last one so we can put off the inevitable task of finding a suitable replacement.
As someone who worked retail for many years, I can tell you that it is no fun for the person behind the counter either. Whenever I would get notice that popular product has been discontinued, I’d brace myself for the onslaught of frustrated customers I knew would come.
You may know that I worked at The Body Shop for a short while a couple of years ago. At that time they were reformulating certain popular products with higher quality ingredients and removing parabens (from some of the products). When the new product was ready, there would be a big launch event (usually with some discount), and the old product went bye-bye forever (well, to the highest shelves in the stock room never to be seen again).
